The field itself

This is Renton's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Renton Municipal Airport Runway Diagram Print

Renton Municipal works off one runway, 16/34, measuring 5,382 by 200 feet of asphalt and concrete, and the print hands that strip the whole page. It stands nearly vertical in the frame, tipped a few degrees off the axis, with 16 marked at the top end and 34 at the bottom. Pale apron and taxiway pavement wraps both flanks, widening into ramp areas on the east side and narrowing to a thin shoulder near the north end, and small darker blocks mark the hangars and buildings strung along the field.

The airport is owned by the City of Renton and serves Renton and nearby communities as a general aviation field, sitting roughly 12 miles southeast of downtown Seattle near the south end of Lake Washington. Its northern boundary is the lake itself, alongside the Will Rogers-Wiley Post Memorial Seaplane Base, and the field keeps a floating dock and a launching ramp so aircraft can move between wheeled landings and water. It was renamed Clayton Scott Field in 2005 for the 100th birthday of Clayton Scott. The Boeing Renton Factory that builds 737s sits next door, and airplanes produced there make their initial departure from this pavement.

On a wall, a one runway field like this reads as a single confident line, which is why the composition leaves so much quiet space around it. The whole property covers 170 acres, and the drawn footprint keeps that long, thin proportion instead of stretching to fill the sheet. In 2016 the field logged 122,908 aircraft operations, an average of 337 per day, most of it general aviation, so the busy taxiway web threading between the runway and the ramps is doing real work in the picture as well as visual work.

The runway position, its orientation and the shape of the surrounding pavement are plotted from published airport information, with the identifier, coordinates and field elevation set quietly in the lower corner. Elevation reads 32 feet, low and flat, which suits the calm horizontal weight of that corner block against the vertical strip above it.

Renton (RNT) print, common questions

How many runways does Renton Municipal have?

One. Runway 16/34 is the single runway at RNT, and the print draws it as one strip running nearly top to bottom of the frame with its taxiways and aprons around it.

How long is the runway at RNT?

Runway 16/34 measures 5,382 by 200 feet, surfaced in asphalt and concrete. Those published dimensions are what set the proportion of the dark strip you see in the print.

Where is Renton Municipal, and what is the field elevation?

It is in Renton, Washington, about 12 miles southeast of downtown Seattle near the south end of Lake Washington, at an elevation of 32 feet above mean sea level. The coordinates and that elevation are printed in the lower corner of the print.

What does RNT stand for?

RNT is the identifier for Renton Municipal Airport. It is the code used on the print, kept large in the corner block so the print reads clearly from across a room.

How accurate is the diagram?

The layout is plotted from published airport information, so runway orientation, length to width proportion and the arrangement of taxiways and ramps follow the published data for the field. It is a print rather than a navigation document, and fine details may be simplified or omitted. Signage, lighting and pavement markings are examples of what gets left out.

What sizes are available, and does it work as a gift?

Each print is made to order in a range of standard wall sizes, in the colorway you choose. It lands well with pilots who trained here, Boeing employees, and anyone who spent time on this field, since the shape is recognizable at a glance to people who know it.
