Troy Municipal at N Kenneth Campbell Field Runway Diagram Print

Two runways cross near the upper middle of this print: 07/25 at 6,197 by 100 feet, and 14/32 at 5,024 by 100 feet. The longer strip runs low left to upper right at a shallow angle, the shorter one falls from upper left to lower right, and the two meet in a lopsided X that keeps the eye off dead center. That off-balance crossing is the whole reason the layout works on a wall. A symmetrical field looks like a logo. This one looks like a place.

Troy Municipal Airport is a city-owned public-use field about four nautical miles northwest of the central business district of Troy, in Pike County, Alabama. It began in 1942 as Troy Auxiliary Airfield, a satellite for the Army Air Forces field at Maxwell near Montgomery, and basic flying training ran there through the war years with Fairchild PT-19s as the primary trainer. Civil control came later, through the War Assets Administration. None of that shows up as a caption on the print, but it is the reason a small Alabama city has two paved runways this long.

Around the runways, the taxiways and the apron read in a lighter tone: a spine along the south side of 07/25, a cluster of ramp and building shapes gathered to the right of the crossing, and stub connectors feeding both ends.
