Maxwell AFB Runway Diagram Print

Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama reads on the wall as two asphalt runways that cross. Runway 15/33 is the long one at 8008 feet by 150 feet, cutting from the upper left of the sheet down to the lower right. The second strip, labeled 009/189, measures 3015 feet by 60 feet and stands nearly upright, meeting the long runway in the upper half of the field. The site carries a deep aviation past. The Wright Brothers opened one of the world's earliest flying schools here in 1910, and the field was renamed in 1922 in honor of Second Lieutenant William C. Maxwell, a native of Atmore, Alabama. Air University was established at Maxwell in 1946, and the installation has carried the Maxwell Air Force Base name since 1947. During the Second World War the flying school leaned on outlying auxiliary fields, among them Passmore, Autaugaville and Troy.

One dark line runs nearly corner to corner, and the pale taxiway loops and apron shapes gather to the right of it, leaving a good amount of open paper on either side.
