Description

A runway diagram map print of Adirondack Regional Airport (SLK), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

The field itself

This is Saranac Lake's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Adirondack Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Adirondack Regional draws as a narrow V. The two runways in the print meet at one point near the lower left, then open toward the upper right: 05/23, the long one at 6,573 by 150 feet, rises at a steep angle across most of the sheet, while 09/27 at 3,997 by 100 feet runs out to the right almost level. Both are asphalt. The wedge of empty paper caught between the two strokes is what gives the composition its lift, and the taxiway loops and apron sit behind them in a quieter tone.

The field is a public use airport about four nautical miles northwest of the central business district of Saranac Lake, in Franklin County, on a plateau in the north-central Adirondacks roughly two miles from Lake Clear. Construction of the airfield was completed in 1942. The Town of Harrietstown has operated it since 1960, and the name changed from Saranac Lake Airport to Adirondack Regional in 1989. Elevation is 1,663 feet, which the print carries as a line of type under the identifier along with the coordinates and the city and state.

As wall art this one is unusually graphic for a two runway field. Most small airports give you a cross or a single strip. Here you get one long diagonal and one short near horizontal bar hinged at a corner, which reads clearly from across a room and leaves plenty of breathing space for the colorway you choose. It suits a hallway, an office wall, or a shelf ledge next to sheets for other northern fields such as Plattsburgh or Burlington.

Saranac Lake (SLK) print, common questions

How many runways does SLK have?

Two. Runway 05/23 is 6,573 by 150 feet and runway 09/27 is 3,997 by 100 feet, both asphalt. In the print they meet at a single point and open outward into a narrow V.

How long is the longest runway at Adirondack Regional?

6,573 feet, which is runway 05/23, at 150 feet wide. It is the long diagonal that carries the eye up through the print.

Where is SLK and what is its elevation?

Adirondack Regional sits at 1,663 feet above sea level near Saranac Lake, New York, about four nautical miles northwest of the town's central business district in Franklin County. SLK is the three letter identifier for the airport, and it is the type set large at the bottom of the sheet.

How accurate is the layout compared with the published airport diagram?

The runways are plotted from published airport information, so designators, relative lengths, widths and angles follow the published layout for the current cycle. It is a design piece rather than a navigation chart, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Pavement markings, lighting, signage and small structures are the sorts of things the drawing leaves out.

What sizes can I get?

Your chosen colorway is applied to the runways, taxiways and type. Larger sizes hold the thin 09/27 bar and the taxiway detail better if you plan to view it up close.

Is this a good gift for a pilot or an Adirondacks regular?

Yes. It works for anyone who has flown into the field, trained there, or spends summers around Saranac Lake, because the V of the two runways is recognizable at a glance rather than being a generic aviation print. Shipping within the US is free.
