Marquette/Sawyer Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport has one runway, and the print is that runway: 01/19, 9,072 by 150 feet, drawn as a single dark bar that runs almost the full height of the sheet with a slight lean to the left as it goes north. Field elevation is 1,205 feet and magnetic variation is 4W. Everything else in the drawing hangs off the east side of that line, a full length parallel taxiway with connectors at intervals, then a stack of aprons, a long hangar row and clusters of small blocks down the lower half of the field. North of the 19 threshold the pavement carries on as lighter geometry, so the strip does not simply stop at the number.

That one heavy vertical against a lot of empty ground is the whole composition, and it is a fair reflection of what the field is. The runway was built in 1959 to handle B-52 bombers and KC-135 tankers, which is why a single strip in northern Michigan is long and wide enough to take an aircraft the size of a Boeing 747-8. The pavement is the surviving piece of K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base, which closed in September 1995; the civil airport opened for passenger service in 1999 on part of that ground and replaced the old Marquette County Airport, which closed the same year.

The field sits near Gwinn, about 17 nautical miles south of Marquette, on 2,100 acres in Marquette County. It was called Sawyer International Airport until the county board renamed it Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport as part of a rebranding effort begun in 2022. As of 2026 its scheduled flights run to Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago O'Hare. On the sheet, runway designators, lengths and widths follow the published figures and the taxiways and apron edges are reduced to flat geometry over the ground tone you choose.
