Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Detroit's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport Runway Diagram Print

Four long parallels run on a northeast-to-southwest axis, stacked close together, while two shorter runways cross the field roughly east to west and cut across every one of them. On the print, that structure is the whole composition. The parallels carry the eye down the sheet and the two crossing runways lock the layout into a grid you can trace with a finger.

Published airport information guides the runway relationships and relative proportions in the composition. The longest runway, 04R/22L, stretches 12,003 feet and anchors the left side of the parallel group; 03R/21L and 04L/22R follow at 10,001 and 10,000 feet, with 03L/21R at 8,501 feet completing the stack. The two crosswind runways, 09L/27R and 09R/27L, measure 8,708 and 8,500 feet and run out toward the edges of the sheet. Each runway is rendered as a crisp bar against the softer gray of taxiways and terminal aprons, with the designator numerals set at the thresholds where a chart would place them.

DTW opened in 1930 as Wayne County Airport and grew across the following decades into the field you see now, its parallel runways added one sector at a time and the last of the six, 04L/22R, finished in December 2001 ahead of the mile-long McNamara Terminal that opened midfield in 2002. The tangle of gray in the render, dense between the parallels, is that terminal and apron footprint drawn from the real ground plan rather than sketched in for effect.

As wall art the layout rewards a second look: someone who has connected through here on the way to Minneapolis or Chicago will recognize the long parallel spread and the two runways slicing across it. The ground tone you choose sits behind the runway bars, the coordinates and field elevation sit quietly in the corner, and the print stays a source-based record of the field rather than a stylized abstraction of it.

Detroit (DTW) print, common questions

How many runways does Detroit Metropolitan have?

Six. Four are long parallel runways on a northeast-to-southwest axis, and two are east-west crosswind runways that cross them. The six runways are composed using published positions and proportions.

What is the longest runway at DTW?

Runway 04R/22L, at 12,003 feet long and 200 feet wide. It anchors the left edge of the parallel group in the diagram.

What does the DTW code stand for?

DTW is the IATA code for Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, the primary airport serving Detroit and southeastern Michigan.

How high is the airport?

The field elevation is 645 feet above sea level. That figure is printed in the corner of the diagram along with the airport's coordinates.

How does the DTW print relate to the airport's layout?

Published airport information and available field depictions guide the DTW composition, including the runway designators and relative geometry. It is original wall art, so fine details may be simplified or omitted.

Does this make a good gift?

It suits anyone with a tie to Detroit or to DTW itself: a former Northwest or Delta crew member, a frequent connector, or a Michigan native. Each print is made to order with free US shipping.
