Description

A runway diagram map print of Ely/Yelland Field (ELY), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

Materials

Fine Art Print: pigment giclée printing on heavyweight 330 gsm (17 mil), 100% cotton Hot Press paper, on regularly calibrated giclée printers. The paper is acid-free and archival-grade, with a smooth matte surface and the high color gamut and black density that let a dark ground and fine linework keep their depth. Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Ely's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Ely/Yelland Field Runway Diagram Print

Ely/Yelland Field reads as a narrow V on the wall. Runway 18/36 runs almost straight up the sheet at 6,017 by 150 feet, and Runway 12/30 comes in from the upper left on a long diagonal at 4,825 by 60 feet, the two of them converging near the bottom where the 36 and 30 thresholds sit side by side. Both surfaces are asphalt. The field elevation is 6,260 feet, which is printed in the corner block with the coordinates and the ELY identifier.

This is a county-owned field three miles northeast of Ely, in White Pine County, Nevada, and the drawing does not pretend to be busier than that. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011 through 2015 categorized it as a general aviation airport, and in 2022 there were ten aircraft based here. What you get on paper is a lot of quiet cream space, one heavy black strip, one thinner black strip, and a small grey cluster of taxiway and apron shapes hugging the east side. The imbalance is the whole appeal: a wide runway and a narrow one, drawn at the same scale, so the difference in width is something you can see rather than something you have to be told.

The runways, taxiways and aprons come from published airport information for the current charting cycle, plotted at the same relative proportions the diagram uses. At larger sizes the thin 12/30 strip stays legible from across a room, which is the test a print like this has to pass. It also hangs well next to other Great Basin fields, so if you are building a wall of high desert airports, Elko to the north and Cedar City to the east are natural companions. The colorway you choose changes the mood more than the geometry: the V is the same shape in every one.

Ely (ELY) print, common questions

How many runways does Ely/Yelland Field have?

Two. Runway 18/36 is the primary strip at 6,017 by 150 feet, and Runway 12/30 is 4,825 by 60 feet. Both are asphalt, and both appear on the print.

How long is the longest runway at ELY?

6,017 feet, which is Runway 18/36. It is also the wider of the two at 150 feet across, and it is the near-vertical strip on the right side of the composition.

How high is the airport?

The field elevation is 6,260 feet. That number is set in the corner block of the print alongside the coordinates, so the altitude is part of the artwork rather than a footnote.

Where is Ely Airport, and what does ELY stand for?

It sits three miles northeast of Ely, in White Pine County, Nevada. ELY is the airport's three-letter identifier, taken straight from the city name, and it is the code set large at the bottom of the sheet.

How close is the print to the published airport layout?

Runway designators, lengths, widths and relative positions are composed from published airport information for the current charting cycle. It is designed as wall art, not as a navigation document, so fine details may be simplified or omitted.

Is this a good gift for a pilot who flies into Ely?

It works well for anyone with a connection to the field, since the V of the two runways is recognizable the moment they see it. Multiple sizes are offered, each one made to order in the colorway you choose.
