Chico Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Chico Regional is a two runway field, and both strips run parallel on the same long diagonal, which is the line this print is built on. Runway 13L/31R is the long one at 6,724 feet by 150 feet, asphalt. Runway 13R/31L runs beside it at 3,000 feet by 60 feet, also asphalt. Published airport information guides the relative runway geometry, so the shorter strip stays visibly shorter and narrower instead of being evened out for the sake of balance.

Apron, taxiway loops and hangar blocks gather along one side of the long runway in a paler gray, which lets the two dark runway bars carry the image. The rest of the sheet stays open. Field elevation of 240 feet and the coordinates sit in the lower corner under the letters CIC, so the piece works as a graphic first and reads as an airport diagram second. The magnetic variation of 16E is part of why those numbers land on 13 and 31 rather than on some tidier pair.

The shape on the wall has a long back story. The City of Chico built a small airport north of town in the late 1930s, and in 1941 the city leased more than a thousand acres to the Army, which added runways, aprons, service roads and about 140 buildings. In 1942 the field opened as the Chico Army Flying School. Chico Air Attack Base was established at the field in 1969 with three retardant loading stations. From 1982 to 1984, Pacific Express, an airline based in Chico, flew a daily departure that could stop in Sacramento on its way to San Francisco. In 2022 the city council voted to change the name from Chico Municipal to Chico Regional.
