Description

A runway diagram map print of Redding Regional Airport (RDD), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Redding's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Redding Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Redding Regional puts two crossing runways on the page. The long one runs almost straight up and down the sheet, marked 17 at the top and 35 at the bottom, 7,003 feet by 150 feet of asphalt. The second, 13/31, cuts across it on a diagonal from upper left to lower right, 5,067 feet by 150 feet. Field elevation is 505 feet, printed in the lower corner with the coordinates.

The crossing point is what makes the composition. The two strips meet well below center, so the diagonal leaves a wide open wedge on the right side of the print while the taxiways, apron and hangar rows pile up along the left. Heavy dark lines, a lot of quiet paper, and a pale grey web of taxi routes doing the connective work. From across a room you read one tall stroke and one slash. Up close you get the comb of small hangars set west of the runway.

The field sits southeast of Redding in Shasta County, and it began as a military strip. Redding Army Airfield was built in 1942 for advanced training of airmen headed overseas, with P-39 Airacobras flying that mission. The city took the field for civil use in 1946, and the final transfer in 1949 ended military ownership. The flying stayed regional afterward: in 1970 the airline operating from Redding ran turboprops nonstop to Chico and Klamath Falls, among other stops. The terminal was rebuilt and enlarged in 2014.

Redding (RDD) print, common questions

How many runways does Redding Regional have?

Two. Runway 17/35 measures 7,003 by 150 feet and runway 13/31 measures 5,067 by 150 feet, both asphalt. On the print they cross, with 13/31 running diagonally across the longer strip.

How long is the longest runway at RDD?

7,003 feet, and 150 feet wide. That is runway 17/35, the near vertical line that carries the print from top to bottom.

What is the field elevation at Redding Regional?

505 feet above sea level. The number is set below the coordinates in the lower corner of the print, next to the RDD wordmark.

Where is Redding Regional, and what does RDD stand for?

It lies southeast of Redding in Shasta County, California. RDD is simply the three letter identifier for the airport, the one you see on baggage tags, and it is the code used on the print.

Is the diagram accurate to the published layout?

The runways and taxi routes are plotted from published airport information, so 17/35 and 13/31 sit at the angle and proportion the published runway data gives them. It is a design piece rather than a navigation chart, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Markings, lighting and signage are among the things left out.

What sizes does it come in, and does it work as a gift?

A Fine Art Print, Framed Fine Art Print or Glossy Metal Print comes in standard sizes and your chosen colorway, with free US shipping. A Digital Download is available separately for the same Redding artwork. It reads well for anyone with a Redding connection: pilots based at the field, frequent flyers, or someone who learned to fly in northern California.
