Sacramento Executive Airport Runway Diagram Print

Sacramento Executive draws as an X. Runway 02/20, 5,503 ft by 150 ft of asphalt, runs from the lower left corner up to the right side of the sheet, and Runway 12/30, 3,837 ft by 100 ft, cuts the other way across it. The two meet high on the page rather than in the middle, which is what gives this print its off center balance: a long unbroken leg dropping toward the bottom left, a shorter arm reaching down to the right, and quiet paper below the crossing. The threshold numbers 2, 20, 12 and 30 sit in the runway ends as reversed type, small enough to be a detail you find rather than a label you read first.

The field opened in 1930 as Sutterville Aerodrome, three miles south of downtown Sacramento, and it stayed the city's airline airport for decades. In 1967 the carriers moved to the new Sacramento International Airport, the airport was renamed Sacramento Executive, and that last set of airline schedules still listed weekday nonstops to San Francisco along with a single flight to Oakland. In 2004 operations averaged 370 per day. An older runway, 16/34, was closed in 2017, so the two lighted runways drawn here are the two that are left.

What is not runway is held back in a lighter tone: taxiway loops, the ramp and the rows of hangars stacked along the west edge of the 540 acre field, plus the long parallel taxiway that shadows 02/20 most of its length. That tonal split is the whole design idea, and it lets the print work from across a room and up close. Identifier, city, coordinates and the 23 ft elevation are set in the lower right corner, so the sheet still says where it is even when the geometry is doing the talking.
