Fairchild AFB Runway Diagram Print

Fairchild AFB is a one runway field, and the print leans all the way into that. Runway 05/23 runs 13,899 feet long and 150 feet wide, surfaced in concrete, and it enters the composition at the lower left, climbs steadily to the right, and exits near the top. There is no crossing strip, no V, no second axis to balance it. What you get is a single dark bar set at a slow diagonal, with the parallel taxiway shadowing it the whole way and apron pads, ramp blocks and hangar shapes stacked along the north side in lighter grey. The base sits about twelve miles southwest of Spokane in eastern Washington, established in 1942 as the Spokane Army Air Depot and named for General Muir S. Fairchild. From 1947 to 1992 it was a Strategic Air Command base flying bombers and tankers, and in 1994 the 92d Bomb Wing was re-designated the 92d Air Refueling Wing under Air Mobility Command. Since 1994 that wing has flown contingency missions around the world.
