Camp Pendleton MCAS (Munn Field) Runway Diagram Print

NFG draws as a single runway field. Runway 03/21 is the only runway here, 6005 feet long and 221 feet wide, asphalt, and the print gives it the full diagonal of the frame: the 03 numbers sit low on the left, the line climbs to the right, and 21 caps it near the top. That one stroke is the spine of the whole composition.

Everything else in the frame answers to that line. A pale band of taxiway shadows the runway along its northeast side and opens into a deep apron, with rows of small structures stepping down the right edge in a slightly darker gray. A separate cluster of pads and connectors sits detached near the top left, floating in open background with nothing touching it. The field sits at 78 feet of elevation, and with a magnetic variation of 13E the ends read 03 and 21 rather than the compass angle the eye first guesses, which is the kind of detail that rewards standing close.

The airfield was designated an auxiliary landing field in 1942, and it carries the name Munn Field in honor of Lieutenant General John C. "Toby" Munn, the first Marine aviator to serve as Commanding General of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. In 1978 the field was re-designated a Marine Corps Air Facility and became home to Marine Aircraft Group 39.
