Materials

Fine Art Print: pigment giclée printing on heavyweight 330 gsm (17 mil), 100% cotton Hot Press paper, on regularly calibrated giclée printers. The paper is acid-free and archival-grade, with a smooth matte surface and the high color gamut and black density that let a dark ground and fine linework keep their depth. Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Hemet's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Hemet-Ryan Airport Runway Diagram Print

Hemet-Ryan runs two asphalt runways that point the same general way, and the print keeps that relationship intact. Runway 05/23 is the long one, 4315 feet by 100 feet, drawn as a solid bar that climbs from the 5 threshold at lower left to 23 at upper right. Runway 04/22 sits just northwest of it at 2014 feet by 25 feet, so it renders as a hairline: barely thicker than a pen stroke, leaning in slightly toward the northeast end, never quite touching its bigger neighbor. Published magnetic variation at the field is 13E, which is why the numbers on the ends read the way they do.

As art, the field is carried by that near parallel pairing. One heavy line, one thin line, both on the same diagonal, with taxiways looping off the south side and the apron and hangar rows massed into a grey block on the east. Nothing competes for the eye. The elevation, 1515 feet, is set under the coordinates in small type at the bottom, and the identifier does the anchoring while the upper half of the sheet stays mostly open. It is a small field drawn honestly, which is the point: the composition earns its quiet from real restraint rather than added decoration, and it holds up at arm's length or across a room.

Hemet sits inland, with Riverside off to the northwest and Palm Springs east beyond the hills. Each of those fields is drawn in the same visual language and at the same weight, so a grouping of two or three reads as one piece of wall rather than three separate ideas. In the colorway you choose, the runway bars stay the darkest element on the sheet.

Hemet (HMT) print, common questions

How many runways does Hemet-Ryan have?

Two. Runway 05/23 is 4315 feet long and 100 feet wide, and runway 04/22 is 2014 feet long and 25 feet wide. Both are asphalt, and both appear on the print.

What is the longest runway at HMT?

Runway 05/23, at 4315 feet by 100 feet. It is the bold diagonal that runs corner to corner through the upper half of the artwork.

How high is the airport?

The field elevation is 1515 feet. That figure is printed in small type beneath the coordinates on every piece.

What does HMT mean and where is the airport?

HMT is the identifier for Hemet-Ryan in Hemet, California, in the inland part of the state (ICAO code KHMT). The coordinates on the sheet, 33.7340 N and 117.0223 W, place it precisely.

How closely does the artwork follow the published layout?

The diagram is plotted from published airport information, so runway designators, relative lengths, widths and the angle between the two strips follow the published data for the current cycle. At print scale, fine details may be simplified or omitted. Painted markings, lighting and small ground equipment are examples of what gets left out.

What formats does this come in, and does it work as a gift?

Fine Art Print, Framed Fine Art Print, Glossy Metal Print and Digital Download. Physical pieces are made to order; the download is a file. It lands well for anyone who trained, flew or worked at Hemet-Ryan, since the layout is specific enough to be recognized on sight.
