Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Milwaukee's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

General Mitchell International Airport Runway Diagram Print

This print composes General Mitchell International (MKE) from published airport information and available field depictions, with the runway geometry plotted at relative scale. Two long runways anchor the drawing and cross near the center: 01L/19R runs close to north-south for 9,990 feet, and 07R/25L cuts across from southwest to northeast for 8,300 feet. Each of those has a shorter parallel beside it, 01R/19L at 4,182 feet and 07L/25R at 4,797 feet, and a fifth strip, 13/31, runs 5,537 feet on its own diagonal. The elevation, 728 feet, is set below the code.

The airport sits a few miles south of downtown Milwaukee and traces back to Hamilton Airport, a private field that Milwaukee County bought in 1926. Charles Lindbergh visited in August 1927, the same season early carriers opened routes out of the field, including service toward Chicago and Minneapolis. In 1941 it took the name of Brigadier General William "Billy" Mitchell, a Milwaukee-rooted Army officer and outspoken air power advocate, and in 2019 it was rebranded General Mitchell International to put the city up front.

Milwaukee (MKE) print, common questions

How does the MKE print relate to the airport's layout?

Published airport information and available field depictions guide the MKE composition, including the runway designators and relative geometry. It is original wall art, so fine details may be simplified or omitted.

What do the numbers on the runways mean?

They are the runway designators, like 01L/19R and 13/31, which come from each runway's magnetic heading. The paired numbers at opposite ends differ because you can land or depart from either direction.

Why does MKE have five runways at different angles?

The field has two pairs of parallel runways plus one lone diagonal, an arrangement that lets traffic use whichever alignment best fits the wind. The print keeps all five and their real orientations.

How is the print made?

It is composed from published airport information. Nothing ships until your order is placed, and shipping within the US is free.

Which ground color should I choose?

That depends on your wall and framing. Lighter grounds read clean and open, while darker grounds make the runway lines pop; each option in the picker shows the same diagram on your chosen tone.
