The field itself

This is Joplin's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Joplin Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Joplin Regional plots as an X. Runway 18/36 runs nearly top to bottom of the sheet, 6,502 by 100 feet of concrete, while 13/31 cuts across it on the diagonal at 6,501 by 150 feet of asphalt. The two are within one foot of each other in length, so neither wins the composition. They meet low and right of center, well below the midpoint of the vertical strip, which throws the crossing point off balance and keeps the eye traveling.

The supporting field is drawn in a lighter tone underneath. A taxiway loop trails off the northwest end of 13/31, a ladder of connectors feeds 18/36 down its length, and a separate parallel strip sits out to the right of the crossing. Down at lower left the terminal and hangar cluster reads as a dense knot of small rectangles against a lot of open paper. Elevation, 978 feet, is set under the identifier with the coordinates.

The field sits four miles north of Joplin, in Jasper County, and its route history is deeper than the quiet layout suggests. Ozark Airlines linked it to Springfield and Tulsa from 1950 until 1986, and brought the first jets to Joplin in 1968 with the Douglas DC-9. None of that shows in the geometry, which is part of the appeal: a working two runway crossing that has carried far more than it looks like it should.

As art it is an easy piece to place. Two heavy strokes, one vertical and one diagonal, hold a wall without shouting, and the contrast between the dark runways and the pale taxiway network shifts depending on the colorway you choose. Each print is made to order and ships free within the US.

Joplin (JLN) print, common questions

How many runways does Joplin Regional have?

Two, and both are on the print. Runway 18/36 is 6,502 by 100 feet with a concrete surface, and runway 13/31 is 6,501 by 150 feet with an asphalt surface. They cross, which is what gives JLN its X shape.

What is the longest runway at JLN?

Runway 18/36 at 6,502 feet, by one foot. Runway 13/31 measures 6,501 feet but is half again as wide at 150 feet, so on the sheet the diagonal actually reads as the heavier of the two.

Where is JLN, and what does the code stand for?

JLN is the identifier for Joplin Regional, four miles north of Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri. The field sits at 978 feet of elevation, near 37.1532 degrees north and 94.4988 degrees west, and those coordinates are shown in the artwork.

How closely does the print follow the published layout?

Runway positions, lengths, widths and designators are plotted from published runway data for cycle 2609, effective 2026-08-06, and the taxiway and apron shapes follow the same published information. It is a designed print, not a navigation document: fine details are simplified or omitted so the layout reads cleanly at wall distance.

What sizes are available?

Several print sizes are offered, and the layout scales well across all of them because JLN is built from two long strokes rather than fussy detail. Pick the colorway you choose to suit the room, whether that is a bright office wall or a darker hallway.

Is this a good gift for someone connected to Joplin?

It works well for pilots, controllers, mechanics and anyone who learned to fly or commuted out of Joplin Regional. The identifier, city, state, coordinates and 978 foot elevation are all set into the print, so the connection is legible without any explanation.
