The field itself

This is Bentonville's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Bentonville Municipal/Louise M Thaden Field Runway Diagram Print

VBT has two runways, and on the print they read as a pair of near parallel strips running almost straight up the sheet. Runway 18/36 is the long one, 5,053 by 75 feet of asphalt, drawn as the solid dark spine of the composition from the 18 label at the top to 36 at the bottom. Turf runway 17/35 sits just west of it, 2,448 by 75 feet, a shorter lighter band with a stippled fill that starts and ends well inside the length of the paved strip. Field elevation, 1,298 feet, sits in the caption block with the coordinates.

The airport is city owned and public use, about 2 nmi south of the central business district of Bentonville, and it is also known as Louise M. Thaden Field, a name given in 1951 to honor Louise McPhetridge Thaden, an aviation pioneer from Bentonville. The master plan was updated in 2016. After 2016 a major update was completed, including a new flight center, public meeting rooms, a museum, and a restaurant added to the northern border with Lake Bentonville. In the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009 through 2013 the field is categorized as a general aviation facility.

The layout is plotted from published airport information, then reduced to what carries at wall distance: the two runway strips, the taxiway loops that wrap them, the apron on the east side and the row of hangars stepping down beside it. It is a diagram rather than a photograph, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. The tall narrow footprint is the whole appeal here. Two vertical strips and a spare caption block leave a lot of quiet ground, and the colorway you choose decides whether that quiet reads warm or cold.

It is an easy print for anyone who learned to fly in northwest Arkansas, flies in for the weekend, or just keeps the field in their logbook. Companion diagrams exist for the neighboring fields at Rogers and Fayetteville if you want a short wall of them.

Bentonville (VBT) print, common questions

How many runways does VBT have, and how long are they?

Two. Runway 18/36 is 5,053 by 75 feet with an asphalt surface, and runway 17/35 is 2,448 by 75 feet with a turf surface. Both appear on the print, labeled at their ends.

Where is Bentonville Municipal/Louise M Thaden Field?

In Bentonville, Arkansas, about 2 nmi south of the central business district, at 36.3448 N, 94.2195 W. Field elevation is 1,298 feet.

What does the code VBT stand for?

VBT is the three letter location identifier for Bentonville Municipal/Louise M Thaden Field. The airport has no IATA designation, and its ICAO code is KVBT. The print carries VBT because that is the code pilots and locals actually use.

Why is the airport called Louise M. Thaden Field?

It was given that name in 1951 to honor Louise McPhetridge Thaden, an aviation pioneer from Bentonville.

How accurate is the diagram?

It follows published runway data: two runways in their published relative positions and proportions, with 18/36 as the long paved strip and 17/35 as the shorter turf strip beside it. It is designed to be read from across a room, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Pavement markings, lighting and signage are the usual examples.

What sizes and finishes are available, and does it work as a gift?

Several print sizes are offered, as a Fine Art Print, Framed Fine Art Print or Glossy Metal Print (Digital Download available separately), each made to order, and the tall layout of this field suits a portrait frame. Pair the print with a logbook entry date or a first solo at VBT and it becomes a specific gift rather than a generic one.
