Materials

Fine Art Print: pigment giclée printing on heavyweight 330 gsm (17 mil), 100% cotton Hot Press paper, on regularly calibrated giclée printers. The paper is acid-free and archival-grade, with a smooth matte surface and the high color gamut and black density that let a dark ground and fine linework keep their depth. Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Goodland's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Renner Field/Goodland Municipal Airport Runway Diagram Print

GLD reads as one long X. In the print, Runway 12/30 runs from the upper left down to the lower right at 5,499 by 100 feet of concrete, and Runway 5/23 climbs from the lower left to the upper right at 4,001 by 75 feet, the two crossing just past the center of the sheet. North of that crossing, Runway 17/35 sits on its own as a slim vertical bar, 1,754 by 40 feet of turf, drawn in a lighter tone than the paved pair and touching neither of them. That gap is what gives the composition its balance: a heavy X anchoring the middle, one thin stroke floating above it.

The field sits two miles north of Goodland in Sherman County, at an elevation of 3,658 feet, and covers 372 acres. Its shape carries some history. The airfield ran contract glider training for the United States Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1943, using C-47 Skytrains and Waco CG-4 unpowered gliders, and the wartime NW/SE strip is the one now paved and serving as the main runway. In the print, that is the 12/30 diagonal, the longest and boldest line on the page. Ramp, taxiways and apron buildings cluster to the left in a soft grey, so the eye keeps returning to the two black strokes.

Goodland has a longer airline past than a field this size suggests. In 1961 Central Airlines began flying to Denver, Kansas City and Wichita on Douglas DC-3s, and scheduled service ran under a string of operators before it ended in 2000. None of that shows on the diagram, which is the point: what hangs on the wall is geometry. The layout is plotted from published airport information, held to one flat ink over one background in the colorway you choose, and sized to hang as a graphic first and a diagram second.

Goodland (GLD) print, common questions

How many runways does GLD have, and how long are they?

Three. Runway 12/30 is the longest at 5,499 by 100 feet, concrete. Runway 5/23 is 4,001 by 75 feet. Runway 17/35 is a turf strip, 1,754 by 40 feet. All three appear on the print, with the two paved runways crossing and the turf strip drawn separately to the north.

Where is Renner Field/Goodland Municipal?

Two miles north of Goodland, in Sherman County, Kansas, at an elevation of 3,658 feet. The coordinates and elevation are printed in the caption block at the lower right.

What does GLD stand for?

GLD is the identifier for Renner Field/Goodland Municipal. Three-letter identifiers are the short codes used on tickets, bags and flight plans, and GLD is the one that belongs to Goodland.

How accurate is the diagram?

The runway alignments, relative lengths and widths, and the taxiway and apron shapes are plotted from published airport data for the current chart cycle. It is composed as wall art, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Approach lighting, markings, signage and small structures are the usual omissions.

What sizes are available?

Your chosen colorway sets the line and background colors. The X of the two paved runways holds up at small sizes; larger sizes let the turf strip and the apron detail read clearly from across a room.

Is this a good gift for a pilot who flies out of Goodland?

It works well for anyone with a connection to the field: student pilots, glider enthusiasts, based owners, or someone who grew up watching traffic north of town. It is made to order and ships free within the US.
