Hays Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Hays Regional reads on paper as two black strokes that cross well below center. Runway 16/34 is the long one, 6,501 by 100 feet, running close to north and south down the full height of the sheet. Runway 4/22 is shorter and narrower at 4,501 by 75 feet, and it slants up from the lower left to meet the long strip about two thirds of the way down. Both are concrete. The result is a lopsided X rather than a tidy symmetrical one, and that off-balance crossing is what gives the composition its tension.

The field sits about three miles southeast of Hays, in Ellis County, Kansas, and it is used for general aviation. The current airport opened around 1960, runway 4/22 was built in 2002, and the long 16/34 strip was rebuilt in 2013. In 2021 the airport handled 31,329 aircraft operations.
