Virginia Highlands Airport Runway Diagram Print

Virginia Highlands (VJI) is a one runway field, and that single line carries the whole print: runway 6/24, 5,500 feet by 75 feet, asphalt, plotted from published airport information at an elevation of 2,088 feet. There is no second strip to balance against, no intersection to anchor the middle. The composition lives or dies on one long stroke, and here it works.

In the artwork that stroke runs corner to corner on a diagonal, with the 6 threshold low and left and the 24 threshold high and right. A taxiway traces the runway on both sides and closes into loops at each end, so the dark pavement sits inside a thin outline rather than floating alone. Below the centerline the drawing thickens into apron, hangar rows and small rectangles of building, all of it weighted to one side. The empty half of the sheet is doing real work: it is what makes the diagonal read as motion instead of a stripe.

The field is a public use airport covering 184 acres at Abingdon, in Washington County, Virginia. In 2024 it reached its present 5,500 foot length, with a north taxiway added to runway 6, which is the geometry you are looking at on the wall. Printed large, the identifier block and the coordinate line in the lower right give it the feel of a technical document that someone chose to hang.
