Fine Art Print: pigment giclée printing on heavyweight 330 gsm (17 mil), 100% cotton Hot Press paper, on regularly calibrated giclée printers. The paper is acid-free and archival-grade, with a smooth matte surface and the high color gamut and black density that let a dark ground and fine linework keep their depth. Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Truckee's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Truckee-Tahoe Airport Runway Diagram Print

Truckee-Tahoe (TRK) draws as a long, lopsided X. Runway 11/29 is 7,001 by 100 feet and runs as the long diagonal from the upper left corner down to the lower right. Runway 02/20 is shorter at 4,654 by 75 feet and cuts across it low and to the right, so the intersection sits well off center instead of neatly in the middle. Both are asphalt, and the field elevation of 5,904 feet is set under the identifier at the bottom of the sheet.

That off center crossing is what makes the composition work on a wall. The two dark strips carry all the weight, the paved apron, taxiway loops and the stacked rows of hangars sit to the left in a lighter tone, and everything above and below the X is open ground. It is asymmetric without being busy, which is why it holds up at large sizes and still reads from across a room in the colorway you choose.

The airport itself is a public field about two miles east of Truckee, sitting in both Nevada County and Placer County and owned by Truckee Tahoe Airport District, a bi-county special district. A national plan of integrated airport systems for 2009 through 2013 called it a general aviation airport. A seasonal control tower opened in 2017 and reopened later that same year as a year round operation. In 2017 the field recorded about 35,000 aircraft operations, an average of 95 a day. Both runways are lighted.

It also hangs well next to diagrams of other fields in the region, Reno and Minden among them, since they share the same drawing language and the same restrained palette.

Truckee (TRK) print, common questions

How many runways does Truckee-Tahoe have, and how long are they?

Two. Runway 11/29 is 7,001 by 100 feet, and runway 02/20 is 4,654 by 75 feet. Both surfaces are asphalt, and both appear on the print as the crossed dark strips.

How high is the field at TRK?

5,904 feet. That elevation is printed under the identifier block in the lower right of the sheet, along with the coordinates.

Where is TRK, and what does the code mean?

Truckee, California. The airport is a public field roughly two miles east of Truckee, in both Nevada County and Placer County. TRK is its three-letter location identifier in United States airport records; its IATA code is a different one, TKF.

Is the diagram accurate to the published layout?

The runway geometry is plotted from published runway data for the field, so the lengths, widths and the angle at which 11/29 and 02/20 cross follow that data. It is a design piece rather than a navigation chart, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Markings, lighting, signage and small service structures are the kind of thing that gets left out for legibility.

What sizes and finishes are available?

Several standard portrait sizes, printed to order on paper, framed or on metal. The X shape here has a lot of open ground around it, so a larger size gives the diagonals room to breathe, while a smaller one works in a stack of frames. Every size uses the same layout and the same identifier block.

Does this make a good gift for a pilot?

Yes, particularly for anyone who has flown into a high field like this one. The runway numbers, the coordinates and the elevation are all legible on the sheet, so the recipient recognizes the airport without needing a caption, and it ships made to order.
