The field itself

This is Twentynine Palms's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Twentynine Palms Airport Runway Diagram Print

Twentynine Palms Airport draws as a T. Runway 8/26 stretches 5,531 feet across the upper third of the sheet at 75 feet wide, and the shorter 17/35, 3,797 by 50 feet, drops straight south from a junction near its left quarter. Both surfaces are asphalt. What you get on paper is a long horizontal bar, one vertical stem, a thin lace of taxiway and apron gray around the joint, and a great deal of open space below.

The field is public use, owned by the County of San Bernardino, and it covers 480 acres about six nautical miles east of the central business district of Twentynine Palms. It was activated in 1942 by the Army Air Forces and began as a contract glider training school. Some 1,654 glider pilots came through what was then the Twentynine Palms Air Academy before the field passed to the Navy in 1944.

Small fields tend to read badly at print size because there is nothing to look at. This one does not have that problem: the T is legible from across a room, and the runway end numbers 8, 26, 17 and 35 sit right on the strips where a pilot would read them. Elevation 1,888 feet and the coordinates print quietly under the identifier. It pairs naturally with other high desert diagrams, Daggett among them, and the empty lower half of the sheet keeps it calm next to whatever else is on the wall. Made to order in the colorway you choose.

Twentynine Palms (TNP) print, common questions

How many runways does Twentynine Palms Airport have?

Two, and both appear in the print. Runway 8/26 is 5,531 by 75 feet and runway 17/35 is 3,797 by 50 feet, both asphalt.

How long is the longest runway at TNP?

5,531 feet. That is runway 8/26, the east west strip that runs across the top of the diagram, 75 feet wide.

What is the field elevation?

1,888 feet above sea level. The figure is set in small type below the TNP identifier in the lower corner of the print.

Where is TNP, and what do the letters stand for?

TNP is the identifier for Twentynine Palms Airport, a public use field owned by the County of San Bernardino and located about six nautical miles east of the central business district of Twentynine Palms, California. The coordinates on the sheet are 34.1316 N, 115.9458 W.

How accurate is the layout?

The runways, their designators and their relative proportions are plotted from published airport information for the current data cycle, so the T shape, the length difference between 8/26 and 17/35 and the position of the junction all follow the published runway data. Fine details may be simplified or omitted: this is a print, not a chart, so lighting, markings, signage and minor pavement edges are left out for legibility.

Does it work as a gift?

It does, especially for someone who learned to fly, flew gliders, or drives past the field on the way into the high desert. Multiple sizes are available, and the colorway you choose sets the mood, from bright and graphic to dark and quiet.
