Barstow-Daggett Airport Runway Diagram Print

Barstow-Daggett has two runways, and the print draws both. Runway 8/26 lies flat along the bottom of the sheet, 6,402 by 150 feet of asphalt with the numbers set into each end. Runway 4/22 runs on the diagonal, 5,123 by 100 feet, rising from the lower left toward the upper right. The two strips lean toward each other near the west end and never quite meet, so the pair reads as a long open V rather than a tidy X.

That off-balance geometry is the reason this one works on a wall. The horizontal runway gives the composition a firm baseline; the diagonal cuts against it and pulls the eye up and to the right. The field itself is a county airport in San Bernardino County, California, sitting about five miles east of Daggett and 14 miles east of Barstow. Built in 1933, it is the oldest of the six airports the county operates, and it covers 1,087 acres. Douglas Aircraft ran a modification center on the site from 1942 until the middle of 1944. In 2006 the airport handled 36,500 aircraft operations, close to an even split between general aviation and military flying, which is a lot of movement for a layout this plain.
