Odessa-Schlemeyer Field Runway Diagram Print

Odessa-Schlemeyer Field gives this print an uncommon shape: three runways, every one of them crossing another, not a parallel pair on the field. Runway 11/29 is the long one at 6200 feet by 100 feet, sweeping from the upper left down to the far lower right. Runway 02/20 runs the other diagonal at 5703 feet by 75 feet, climbing from the bottom left toward the top right. Runway 16/34 drops through the middle at 5003 feet by 75 feet. The three crossings land in a loose triangle just left of center, so the artwork reads as an asterisk rather than a neat X.

The field sits 5 miles northeast of Odessa and 10 miles west of Midland International Air and Space Port, and it opened in 1945. On the wall, the dark runway bars carry the whole composition while the pale taxiway loop wraps around them and closes off that wide triangle of open ground on the right. Two clusters of hangar rows anchor the left edge, one near the top and one lower down, which keeps the weight off center and gives the piece somewhere to breathe.
