New River MCAS (McCutcheon Field) Runway Diagram Print

New River MCAS (McCutcheon Field) has two runways, and in this print they lean into each other at the top of the frame. Runway 05/23, 5,125 feet long, runs as one long diagonal from the lower left corner up to the right, where its 23 end finishes a stride from the north end of 01/19. That second runway, 4,789 feet long, drops almost straight down the right side toward its 1 end. The pair converges high and opens downward into a narrow wedge, so the composition is a slash braced against a vertical line rather than the usual X or parallel pair.

Both strips are 150 feet wide asphalt, which is why the two dark bars carry equal weight on the wall even though one is the longer of the two. Everything else is deliberately quieter: apron and taxiway shapes fill the upper left in a pale tone, a row of building footprints sits along the north edge, and a single taxiway stub runs out past the 5 end at the bottom. The field elevation, 26 feet, is set in small type under the coordinates with the identifier NCA below the drawing.

The history under the geometry is short and specific. The site began as 29 parcels of tobacco farm bought in 1941, the airfield was recommissioned as Marine Corps Air Station (Helicopter) New River in 1968, and in 1972 it took the name McCutcheon Field for General Keith B. McCutcheon. It sits near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in eastern North Carolina.
