Coles County Memorial Airport Runway Diagram Print

MTO draws as a wide X. Runway 11/29, the long one at 6,501 by 150 feet, runs from the upper left of the sheet down to the lower right, and Runway 6/24 at 5,799 by 100 feet cuts the other way, lower left to upper right, the two meeting a little below center. Both are inked solid and dark, so the crossing point is the first thing your eye lands on. West of them, standing alone in pale stipple, is the turf strip 18/36 at 1,098 by 250 feet: short, oddly wide, and set apart from the paved pair.

The gray work sits north of the crossing. Apron, hangar rows and building blocks gather along the top of the field, and the taxiway loops spill south from them in soft rounded rectangles that frame the empty ground inside the X. The field elevation is 722 feet. Coles County Memorial is a public use airport between Mattoon and Charleston in Coles County, categorized as a general aviation facility in the national airport systems plan for 2011 through 2015. Scheduled airline service ended in 2000. The main runway dates to 1974 and was completely reconstructed in 2015, and in 2023 the airport received the Frank G. Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award from the Civil Air Patrol for its work in youth aerospace education. It also hosts an annual air show with aerial performances and static displays.
