Terre Haute Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Terre Haute Regional Airport works two runways and the diagram is an X. Runway 05/23 measures 9,021 by 150 feet and runs southwest to northeast; runway 14/32 measures 7,200 by 150 feet and runs northwest to southeast. What gives the print its character is where they meet: the crossing sits well off center, up near the 23 and 14 thresholds, which leaves the long southwest leg of 05/23 running alone down the lower half of the sheet. The field opened as Hulman Field. Ground was broken in 1943 on a 638 acre site donated to the city of Terre Haute by businessman Anton Hulman Jr., and the airport was dedicated on October 3, 1944 with three runways, taxiways, an apron and a terminal building. Trans World Airlines flew the first commercial service here and kept calling from 1944 to 1967, using Terre Haute as a stop between Indianapolis and St. Louis on its transcontinental route structure. A new terminal and control tower went up in 1953, and the airport was renamed from Hulman Regional to Terre Haute International Airport, Hulman Field, in 1998.

Part of the property is Hulman Field Air National Guard Base, and the Indiana Air National Guard's 181st unit has been stationed here since 1954. It flew fighters out of Terre Haute for decades, moving from the RF-84F Thunderstreak through the F-100D Super Sabre, the F-4 Phantom II and the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and flew its last F-16 training mission from the field on September 8, 2007 before being redesignated the 181st Intelligence Wing in May 2008. In 2016 the airport was the third busiest in the state of Indiana.
