Description

A runway diagram map print of Purdue University Airport (LAF), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

Your fine art print is made to order with pigment inks on heavyweight, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, a 330 gsm sheet with a high color gamut and deep black density. The acid-free, archival-grade paper has a smooth matte surface. Supplied unframed, ready for your own frame.

Materials

Fine Art Print: pigment giclée printing on heavyweight 330 gsm (17 mil), 100% cotton Hot Press paper, on regularly calibrated giclée printers. The paper is acid-free and archival-grade, with a smooth matte surface and the high color gamut and black density that let a dark ground and fine linework keep their depth. Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Lafayette's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Purdue University Airport Runway Diagram Print

Purdue University Airport (LAF) has two asphalt runways, and the print draws them crossing in a long, off-center X. Runway 10/28, 6,600 by 150 feet, carries the composition in from the left edge and runs slightly downhill to the right. Runway 5/23, 4,225 by 100 feet, cuts down across it on a steep diagonal. The crossing sits well right of center, which leaves the lower left of the sheet open and quiet.

The field is a public-use airport in Tippecanoe County, about 2 nautical miles southwest of the central business district of Lafayette, in West Lafayette. The land came from inventor-industrialist David E. Ross, who donated a tract in 1930 for an aeronautical education and research facility at Purdue University. Amelia Earhart prepared her airplane for her around-the-world flight attempt in Hangar 1 here, flying a Lockheed Model 10 Electra bought for her by the Purdue Research Foundation. Runway 5/23 was paved later in the 1930s; runway 10/28 came in the early 60s.

All of the busy drawing lives in the upper right: taxiway loops, apron edges and a dense cluster of hangar and building footprints packed between the two runway ends. That weight against the empty lower half is what makes the piece read from across a room. Scheduled flights once linked the field with Terre Haute from 1989 until 1995, and the airport sits close enough to Indianapolis that the proximity has shaped how it was treated for federal service funding. Either neighbor makes a natural second frame.

Sizes run from desk scale up to something that anchors a wall, and the colorway you choose sets the mood while the geometry stays put. Every piece is made to order and ships free within the US. Plotted from published airport information, it works as a graphic first: two dark ribbons, one crossing, a lot of open paper.

Lafayette (LAF) print, common questions

How many runways does LAF have, and how long are they?

Two. Runway 10/28 is 6,600 by 150 feet and runway 5/23 is 4,225 by 100 feet, both asphalt. The print shows them crossing in an X, with the longer strip running roughly left to right.

How high is Purdue University Airport?

606 feet above sea level. That elevation is printed on the sheet beneath the coordinates, along with the LAF identifier and the city line.

Where is LAF?

Lafayette, Indiana. The field lies in West Lafayette, about 2 nautical miles southwest of the central business district of Lafayette, at 40.4123 N, 86.9369 W.

What does LAF mean on the print?

LAF is the three-letter identifier for Purdue University Airport. The design uses that one code only, set large in the lower right corner above the city and state.

How closely does the artwork follow the published layout?

Runway designators, lengths, widths and relative positions are plotted from published airport information for cycle 2609, effective 2026-08-06. Fine details may be simplified or omitted, including lighting, markings, displaced thresholds and minor service pavement. It is wall art, not a navigation document.

Does this work as a gift?

It suits anyone with a Purdue or Lafayette connection: a student pilot, an aviation technology graduate, a family that has watched traffic from the field for years. Choose the size and the colorway that fits the room, and it arrives made to order.
