Kingman Airport Runway Diagram Print

Two runways cross at Kingman, and the print gives the wider one the long line: 03/21, 6,827 by 150 feet of asphalt, running as a diagonal from the lower left toward the upper right. Runway 17/35, 6,725 by 75 feet, drops straight down the sheet as a narrow vertical bar. The two meet high on the page, well above the middle, so the pair reads less like a tidy X and more like a tall leaning cross with most of the open space held below the intersection.

The field was built in 1942 as a World War II Army Air Forces training base with a gunnery school, and from 1945 it served as a storage, sales and scrapping center for surplus military aircraft before opening to civilian use in 1949. None of that is labeled on the print. What survives visually is the sprawl of apron and taxiway filling the left half of the sheet, a wide gray mass set against two dark strips, with the long angled taxiway shadowing 03/21 the whole way down.

Elevation 3,449 feet, northeast of downtown Kingman in Mohave County: the diagram keeps that plainness and lets the geometry carry the wall. Depending on the colorway you choose, the runways read as ink pressed into pale paper or as pale light laid over a dark ground.
