Description

A runway diagram map print of Hilton Head Airport (HXD), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Hilton Head Island's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Hilton Head Airport Runway Diagram Print

Hilton Head Airport works from a single runway, 03/21, published at 5,000 feet long and 100 feet wide with an asphalt surface, and this print hands that one strip the entire sheet. The runway is the only black element in the composition, laid corner to corner as a long diagonal with the numeral 3 at the lower left end and 21 at the upper right. Everything else stays quiet and gray, so the eye reads the geometry first and the labels second.

That restraint is what makes a small field work as wall art. A full length taxiway runs parallel to the runway and closes into loops at both ends, drawing a narrow outline around the black bar, and the ramp pavement and building footprints gather on one side in blocks and short rows. The field elevation of 19 feet sits in the caption with the coordinates, which is about right for a barrier island airport that covers roughly 180 acres.

The history is short and specific: the airport opened in 1967 after Arnold Palmer told Charles E. Fraser he would play golf on Hilton Head if there were somewhere to land, and it is still the only airport on the island, owned by Beaufort County. The runway reached its current 5,000 feet with an extension completed in 2018, which is the shape you see plotted here. Framed on its own it is a calm graphic; grouped with prints of nearby fields such as Savannah or Charleston it becomes a small map of one stretch of coast.

Hilton Head Island (HXD) print, common questions

How many runways does HXD have, and how long are they?

One runway: 03/21, published at 5,000 feet by 100 feet with an asphalt surface. That single strip is the black diagonal running across the print.

Where is Hilton Head Airport?

It is on Hilton Head Island in Beaufort County, South Carolina, at 32.2245 N, 80.6974 W. The field elevation is 19 feet, and both figures are printed in the caption block.

What does the code HXD stand for?

HXD is the three-letter location identifier used in airport records for Hilton Head Airport. Airline booking uses HHH instead, which is why travelers often see a different code on a ticket than the one on this print.

How accurate is the diagram?

The layout is plotted from published airport data for cycle 2610, including the runway designators, the parallel taxiway and the ramp outlines. At print scale, fine details may be simplified or omitted. Painted markings, lighting and signage are examples of what gets left out so the runway reads cleanly from across a room.

What sizes are available?

The diagram is rendered as vector artwork, so it stays crisp at every size offered, from a desk-scale piece to a large statement print. The colorway you choose sets the background tone and the contrast of the runway against the taxiway and ramp.

Does this make a good gift?

It suits anyone with a Hilton Head Island connection: a pilot who has flown 03 or 21, a golfer who first arrived by air, or a family that measures summers by this field. Prints are made to order, and US shipping is free.
