Description

A runway diagram map print of Phoenix Goodyear Airport (GYR), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

Your fine art print is made to order with pigment inks on heavyweight, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, a 330 gsm sheet with a high color gamut and deep black density. The acid-free, archival-grade paper has a smooth matte surface. Supplied unframed, ready for your own frame.

Materials

Fine Art Print: pigment giclée printing on heavyweight 330 gsm (17 mil), 100% cotton Hot Press paper, on regularly calibrated giclée printers. The paper is acid-free and archival-grade, with a smooth matte surface and the high color gamut and black density that let a dark ground and fine linework keep their depth. Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Goodyear's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Phoenix Goodyear Airport Runway Diagram Print

Phoenix Goodyear Airport works a single runway, 03/21 at 8,500 by 150 feet, and the print is built on that one line: a long diagonal crossing the sheet from lower left to upper right, with the 3 threshold at the southwest end and 21 at the northeast. Field elevation is 969 feet above sea level and magnetic variation is 10E. A taxiway shadows the runway down its southeast side for nearly the whole length, joined to it by short connector stubs, so the composition reads as two near parallel strokes with everything else pushed to the margins.

Northwest of the runway the drawing opens up. A spine of angled parking stubs branches off at a steady pitch, closer to a fish bone than a grid, with two broad apron rectangles set beyond it. Blocks of narrow hangar bars gather at the northeast corner around the terminal area, and one more block sits southeast of the runway near the southwest end. Runway designators, lengths and widths follow the published figures, and taxiways and apron edges are reduced to flat geometry over the ground tone you choose, so the field's long diagonal is what carries the frame.

The field opened in 1941 as Naval Air Facility Litchfield Park and was later raised to naval air station status. After World War II its main job was storing and preserving obsolete or excess Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aircraft. In 1968 that work was consolidated at the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, NAS Litchfield Park was slated for closure, and the city of Phoenix bought the property as a general aviation reliever for Sky Harbor. The field later became a base for airline pilot training: the Airline Training Center Arizona, the flight training facility for Lufthansa, was sold to United Airlines in 2022, and United Aviate Academy opened there that year. In 2020 the airport recorded 79,599 aircraft operations, about 94 percent of them general aviation.

Goodyear (GYR) print, common questions

How many runways does Phoenix Goodyear Airport have?

One. Runway 03/21 is 8,500 by 150 feet and asphalt, and it runs southwest to northeast across the print.

What is the longest runway at GYR, and how high is the field?

The only runway, 03/21, is 8,500 feet long. Field elevation is 969 feet above sea level, and that figure is set in the margin of the print alongside the coordinates.

What does GYR stand for and where is the airport?

GYR is the IATA code for Phoenix Goodyear Airport, in Goodyear, Arizona, in Maricopa County, at roughly 33.42 north and 112.38 west. The airport is owned by the city of Phoenix.

Was this a military airfield?

Yes. It opened in 1941 as Naval Air Facility Litchfield Park, became a naval air station, and spent the postwar years storing and preserving surplus Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aircraft before the city of Phoenix took it over as a civil reliever field.

Is the diagram accurate to the real airport?

Runway designators, lengths and widths follow the published figures for the field, and the layout is drawn from the airport's published information. It is original wall art, not a chart: fine details may be simplified or omitted, including minor taxiway markings, signage and small structures, and it is not for navigation.

What sizes are available, and does it work as a gift?

Each print is made to order in several sizes and finishes, on a ground tone you pick at checkout. It reads well for anyone who trained at Goodyear, worked the maintenance ramps there, or has a connection to the old Litchfield Park field.
