Description

A runway diagram map print of Fallon Municipal Airport (FLX), made from the airport's own layout for the place it holds in your life. Choose your colorway and your format: a fine art giclée print on cotton paper, a framed fine art print, a glossy metal print or a digital download.

The field itself

This is Fallon's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Fallon Municipal Airport Runway Diagram Print

Fallon Municipal draws as a clean X. Two runways cross near the middle of the sheet: 03/21, the long one at 5,705 by 75 feet of asphalt, runs lower left to upper right, and 13/31, 3,581 by 60 feet of dirt, cuts the other way from upper left to lower right. The dirt strip is rendered with a stippled fill instead of a solid one, so the two lines read differently even from across a room. Field elevation is 3,966 feet.

The airport sits two miles northeast of Fallon, in Churchill County, and covers 440 acres. Everything built is pushed to one side: taxiways, apron and a tight cluster of hangar blocks gather along the left edge of the print, leaving the right two thirds as open ground with nothing but the crossing pair of strips. The nearest larger fields are west, with Reno about 87 km off and Carson City a little farther.

As a wall piece the appeal is the angle. Neither runway lines up with the paper edge, so the X sits tilted in the frame and the eye follows the long asphalt line corner to corner. The hangar cluster gives the left side weight and keeps the composition from floating. The sheet is composed from published airport information, and the balance is a product of how this field was laid out rather than anything added for looks. Whichever colorway you choose, the FLX block and the coordinate line anchor the lower right.

Fallon (FLX) print, common questions

How many runways does Fallon Municipal have?

Two, and both appear in the print. Runway 03/21 is 5,705 by 75 feet with an asphalt surface, and runway 13/31 is 3,581 by 60 feet of dirt. They cross, which is why the diagram reads as an X.

How long is the main runway?

5,705 feet. That is runway 03/21, the longest at the field and the solid dark line running from lower left to upper right on the print.

What does the code FLX mean?

FLX is the identifier for Fallon Municipal Airport, the field two miles northeast of Fallon in Churchill County, Nevada. It is the code set in large type at the bottom of the print, above the coordinates and the 3,966 foot elevation.

How accurate is the diagram?

Runway positions, lengths and crossing angles are plotted from published runway data for the field, so the shapes and proportions follow the published layout. This is a print rather than a navigation document, and fine details may be simplified or omitted. Pavement markings, lighting and signage are examples of what gets left out.

What sizes are available?

Several print sizes are offered, and the diagram is composed as vector artwork so the thin dirt runway and the small hangar blocks stay crisp at every one of them. Pick the colorway that suits the wall; the layout is identical across all of them.

Does this work as a gift?

It lands well with anyone tied to the field: pilots who fly out of Fallon, people who learned there, or someone who just likes the geometry of a crossed pair of runways. Prints are made to order and ship free within the US.
