Capital City Airport Runway Diagram Print

Capital City Airport (CXY) works two asphalt runways, and in the print they cross in a wide X set well left of center. Runway 8/26 is the long one, 5,000 by 150 feet, running from lower left up to the upper right corner. Runway 12/30 is 3,778 by 100 feet and cuts the opposite way, dropping from upper left to lower right. Because the crossing point sits off to one side rather than dead center, the composition leans, and that lean is what keeps the sheet from looking like a logo.

The field opened in 1930 as Capital Landing Field, in Fairview Township, York County, three miles southeast of Harrisburg. It was Harrisburg's first airline airport, and the airlines stayed until 1968, when they shifted to Harrisburg International Airport and this field took its present name as a general aviation airport. Since 1999 it has been owned and operated by the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority, the designated reliever and sister airport of Harrisburg International Airport.

The corner block carries the CXY letters, the city line, the coordinates and the 347 foot field elevation, so the sheet reads as a record rather than a decoration.
