The field itself

This is Dallas's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

McKinney National Airport Runway Diagram Print

McKinney National runs on a single runway, 18/36, 7,002 feet long and 150 feet wide, on concrete. On the sheet that one strip is the whole graphic: a solid black bar running nearly top to bottom, tipped a few degrees off vertical, with 18 set at the head and 36 at the foot. There is no crossing runway, no second strip, nothing to divide your attention. A one runway field either carries a print or it does not, and this one carries it on length and tilt alone.

The interest sits on the west side. A parallel taxiway shadows the runway from end to end, joined by short connector stubs that read like rungs, and beyond it the gray mass of aprons, hangar rows and terminal blocks stacks up in three loose clusters. That puts the weight of the drawing along one edge and leaves the opposite half of the paper open, which is why the composition works at larger sizes instead of turning into a busy chart. Ramp shapes stay light gray, the runway stays black, and the coordinates and field elevation of 589 feet sit quietly in the lower corner with the identifier.

The field grew into that runway. A regional airport was established in McKinney in 1979 and its runway was lengthened in 1984, in 2011 the airport added a 78 foot tall contract control tower, and in 2012 a new 150 foot wide runway was completed. In 2013 the City of McKinney purchased the airport from Collin County and the name changed from Collin County Regional Airport to McKinney National. The airport sits about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas. If you are building a wall of Texas fields, it pairs cleanly with Addison, which has the busier ramp geometry this one deliberately lacks.

Dallas (TKI) print, common questions

How many runways does McKinney National have?

One. Runway 18/36 is 7,002 feet long and 150 feet wide with a concrete surface, and the print shows it as a single strip with the 18 and 36 designators at opposite ends.

What is the field elevation at TKI?

589 feet. That figure is printed under the coordinates in the lower corner of the print, alongside the TKI identifier.

Where is the airport, and what does TKI mean?

TKI is the identifier used for McKinney National, and it is the code set in large type on the print. The airport is in McKinney, Texas, about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas.

How closely does the print follow the published layout?

The runway, the parallel taxiway west of it and the apron and hangar footprints are plotted from published airport information, so the designators and relative placement follow that data. It is wall art rather than a navigation document, and fine details may be simplified or omitted for legibility at print size.

What sizes are available?

Several sizes in a portrait format, printed to order. The tall single runway suits a narrow wall or a stairwell, and the ink weight is tuned to the colorway you choose so the runway holds its contrast. US shipping is free.

Is this a good gift for a McKinney based pilot?

It reads well for anyone who trained, based an aircraft or flew business trips through the field, since the layout is recognizable at a glance from the runway and the taxiway beside it. No aviation background is needed to enjoy it as a graphic.
