Hudson Valley Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

POU is a three runway field, and the print is built around the two that cross. Runway 06/24 runs corner to corner as the long diagonal, 5,001 by 100 feet of asphalt, and 15/33 comes down across it at 2,743 by 100 feet of asphalt and concrete. The two dark bars meet just above center and make a wide, slightly tilted X, with the numbers set in white at each of the four ends. West of the crossing sits the third runway, 07/25, a short turf strip 1,357 by 100 feet, rendered as a pale stippled bar at a shallower angle than the long diagonal. Taxiways and aprons stay soft grey underneath, so the eye goes to the X first and finds the small stuff later.

The field is county owned and public use, on State Route 376 in the Town of Wappinger, Dutchess County, about 4 miles south of downtown Poughkeepsie. It was built in the 1930s by the United States Department of Commerce and used for pilot training during the Second World War, when it was known as New Hackensack Field. In 1942 Winston Churchill landed here and was met by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had driven over from Hyde Park. Scheduled flying came and went: airline service ended in 1990 when Stewart International Airport across the Hudson River began commercial operations, and in 1991 CommutAir returned briefly on a route that linked Buffalo, White Plains, Poughkeepsie, Burlington and Plattsburgh. The name Hudson Valley Regional came later, proposed in 2016 and approved by the Dutchess County Legislature.
