Quantico McAf (Turner Field) Runway Diagram Print

NYG is a one runway field, and the print is built entirely around that single diagonal stripe. Runway 02/20 measures 4250 ft by 184 ft, with PEM listed as the published surface code, and it runs corner to corner across the sheet with the 2 marking at the lower left and the 20 at the upper right. Nothing crosses it. The only other pavement drawn is the broad apron and taxiway mass hugging the west side, plus one stub angling off near the south end, so the composition reads as a long dark bar against a pale field.

The airfield sits at Quantico, Virginia, at an elevation of 10 ft, which is about as close to the water as a runway gets. That flatness is part of the story here: the approach end of Runway 20 is the same stretch of shoreline where Samuel Pierpont Langley launched his unpiloted Aerodrome #5 from a houseboat in 1896, in the shadow of Chopawamsic Island. The present site was chosen in 1931 after the older Brown Field proved too tight, and the new facility took the name Turner Field, after Colonel Thomas C. Turner, a veteran Marine aviator and the second director of Marine Corps Aviation. The airfield was commissioned in 1919.
