Meridian NAS (McCain Field) Runway Diagram Print

Meridian NAS (McCain Field) draws as three concrete runways radiating from one compact core, and that is the whole composition. Runway 01L/19R is the longest at 8,003 feet. Its parallel partner 01R/19L runs 8,000 feet, just three feet shorter. Runway 10/28 is the short one at 6,402 feet. All three are 200 feet wide, which is why this print reads the way it does: at that width the strips plot as heavy solid bars rather than hairlines, and they carry the page on their own.

The layout is the reason to hang it. In the drawing the two parallels are not stacked side by side like rungs on a ladder. They are offset end to end along the same lower left to upper right diagonal, with the longer 01L/19R set to the southwest, so the pair steps across the sheet instead of sitting square to it. Runway 10/28 leaves the middle and angles down to the right. Nothing crosses anything. The three bars meet only through the pale gray taxiways and the apron clustered near the center, which leaves a lot of quiet open ground and gives the composition its off balance, pinwheel look. Runway numbers here follow magnetic north, and the published magnetic variation is 2W.

The field sits 11 miles northeast of Meridian, Mississippi, spread across Lauderdale County and Kemper County. It was commissioned in 1961 as a Naval Auxiliary Air Station, and at that time the operations area was named McCain Field in honor of the late Admiral John S. McCain, Sr. of Teoc, Mississippi. In 1968 it became a full Naval Air Station, and in 1971 Training Air Wing ONE was commissioned there. Elevation is 316 feet, printed under the coordinates in the lower right block.
