Holloman AFB Runway Diagram Print

Holloman AFB has three runways, and the print gives all three room to read. The longest, 07/25, runs 12,922 feet by 150 feet. Crossing it is 16/34 at 12,134 feet by 150 feet. The third, 04/22, is 10,578 feet long and 300 feet wide, double the width of the other two, and the published data lists the same surface type for all three.

On a wall the geometry does something unusual. 04/22 and 16/34 converge at a single point near the top of the field, so they open downward like a narrow wedge, while 07/25 slices across on a shallow tilt. It crosses 16/34 close to the middle of the composition and clips 04/22 near its western end, which puts the 04 and 07 thresholds within a short distance of each other at the left edge. The finished shape is a long triangle with a vertical spine driven through it, off center and asymmetric, so the eye keeps moving. Taxiways, aprons and ramp structures sit behind the runways at lower contrast, which leaves the three strips as the subject.

The linework is plotted from published airport information, cycle 2610, down to the threshold numbers 4, 7, 16, 22, 25 and 34 seated at the ends of the strips. Below the drawing, a caption block carries the identifier HMN, the city and state, the coordinates and the field elevation of 4,093 feet. Nothing is styled up or added for decoration, and the colorway you choose changes the palette rather than the geometry.
