Greeley-Weld County Airport Runway Diagram Print

Greeley-Weld County Airport has two asphalt runways that do not cross, and that is the whole idea of the print. Runway 17/35 is 10,000 by 100 feet and runs almost straight north to south down the right of the frame; runway 10/28 is 5,801 by 100 feet and runs west to east across the lower part of the sheet, passing just south of where the long runway ends. Field elevation is 4,697 feet and magnetic variation is 8E. The pair reads as a long spine and a shorter crossbar that never quite close on each other, with the hangar rows and ramp massed below the short runway and west of the long one.

The field opened in June 1944 as Greeley Municipal Airport and was dedicated that September as Crosier Field, for the World War II aviator Clarence F. Crosier, known as Red. The City of Greeley and Weld County took joint ownership in 1963 and put up a terminal and hangars through that decade, and the Greeley-Weld County Airport Authority was established in 1978 to run and develop the field. The 10,000 foot runway and a new terminal opened in 2000, which is the arrangement this diagram is drawn from.

Passenger flying here was always brief. Challenger Airlines served the field on routes out of Denver in the late 1940s with Douglas DC-3s, and the commuter operator Trans Central Airlines flew Cessna 402s from here in 1969 and 1970.
