Richmond Executive/Chesterfield County Airport Runway Diagram Print

One runway, 15/33, running corner to corner: that is the whole shape of the FCI print. The strip measures 5,500 feet by 100 feet on an asphalt surface, and it sits dark against a pale background, falling from the upper left to the lower right of the sheet. The 15 and 33 numerals are set into either end of that band, rotated with the pavement so you read them the way a pilot would.

Everything else in the composition gathers on one side of that line. A taxiway runs most of the length of the runway and ties back to it through a series of stubs, then widens into apron pavement and a run of hangar rectangles that step down the page in decreasing size. The asymmetry is what makes this one work on a wall: quiet open ground along the lower left, all the detail packed into the upper right, with a long black diagonal holding the two apart.

The field was built in 1973, covers 593 acres in unincorporated Chesterfield County, and is owned by the county. Its runway was completely resurfaced in 2007 and repainted in 2008. Under the diagram, the type panel carries the identifier FCI, the city and state, the coordinates and the elevation, 236 feet.
