Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Bishop's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Eastern Sierra Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Eastern Sierra Regional Airport works three runways, which is a generous layout for a field this size, and this print plots each of them to scale from the published runway data. Runway 12/30 is the long one at 7,498 feet by 100 feet. Runway 17/35 measures 5,600 feet and 08/26 measures 5,567 feet, both at that same 100 foot width, so the two shorter strips read as near twins on different headings. All three are asphalt. Field elevation is 4,124 feet and the magnetic variation is 15E, and both sit small in the corner of the sheet the way a chart notes them.

The airport is two miles east of Bishop, the only incorporated city in Inyo County, near the northern end of the Owens Valley. Inyo County operates the field on land leased from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. It opened in April 1940, and through World War II it was Bishop Army Airfield, a sub-base of Muroc Army Airfield in 1942 and 1943 used for flight and ordnance delivery training before it was reassigned to Tonopah Army Airfield in 1943. The base was declared excess and returned to civil control in 1949. The Air Force came back twice on a sublease, from 1965 to 1971 and again from 1980 to 1985, using runway rights and a small heliport known as the Bishop Test Site for performance testing of helicopters and other aircraft.

Scheduled airline service returned in 2021, when SkyWest began flying to Bishop as United Express, and daily flights to San Francisco and Denver started in 2022. The drawing leaves all of that off. What it keeps is the shape of the field: three runways on three headings, their designators, and the wide open ground between them, composed from published airport information and available field depictions and set on a ground tone you choose. It holds as a clear graphic mark from across a room and rewards a closer look, which makes it a natural gift for anyone who flies the Owens Valley.
