Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Chicago/Aurora's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Aurora Municipal Airport Runway Diagram Print

Aurora Municipal draws as a long horizontal band crossed by a diagonal one, with a third, thinner strip standing off to the side. Runway 09/27 runs the full width of the sheet at 6501 feet by 100 feet, the longest surface on the field and the spine of the whole composition. Runway 15/33 measures 5503 feet by 100 feet and comes down from the upper left, cutting through 09/27 left of center. Because the crossing angle is shallow rather than square, the two read as a stretched X with one arm running far past the intersection.

The third runway, 18/36, is listed at 3198 feet by 75 feet and is the only asphalt among the three. In the print it sits vertically to the right of the crossing, drawn as a narrow open outline with a small X mark at each end instead of a filled band, so it reads as a pale ghost line against the two solid runways. Everything else is light grey: parallel taxiway runs along the south edge of 09/27, connectors stepping up beside 15/33, and a dense apron with rows of buildings gathered at the right side of the field. The field elevation, 712 feet, and the coordinates sit under the ARR letterform in the corner.

On a wall, what carries this one is the imbalance. The long 09/27 band holds a strong horizontal line while 15/33 breaks it at an angle, and the clustered grey detail on the right keeps the left two thirds of the sheet open. It hangs well in a hallway or above a desk where a horizontal line has room to run. Anyone building out a set of northern Illinois fields can set it next to the two parallel strips at West Chicago or the single runway at Romeoville, and the contrast in geometry does the work. The artwork is composed from published airport information and offered as a Fine Art Print, Framed Fine Art Print, Glossy Metal Print or Digital Download, in the colorway you choose.

Chicago/Aurora (ARR) print, common questions

How many runways does Aurora Municipal have, and how long are they?

Three. Runway 09/27 is 6501 feet by 100 feet, runway 15/33 is 5503 feet by 100 feet, and runway 18/36 is 3198 feet by 75 feet. All three appear in the print, with 09/27 and 15/33 as filled bands and 18/36 as a thin outlined strip.

What is the longest runway at ARR?

Runway 09/27, at 6501 feet long and 100 feet wide, on a concrete surface. It is the horizontal band that runs across the middle of the artwork.

Where is ARR and what does the code mean?

ARR is the identifier for Aurora Municipal in Chicago/Aurora, Illinois, at 41.7719 degrees north and 88.4757 degrees west. Field elevation is 712 feet. The three letters are printed large in the lower corner of the piece, with the city, state, coordinates and elevation set beneath them.

Why does one runway look different from the other two?

Runway 18/36 is rendered as an open outline carrying a small X symbol at each end, rather than as a solid dark band like 09/27 and 15/33. That is how the diagram distinguishes it. At 3198 feet by 75 feet it is also the shortest and narrowest of the three, and the only asphalt surface.

How accurate is the layout?

The geometry follows published runway data for the field: three runways at 6501, 5503 and 3198 feet, with the long 09/27 band crossed by 15/33 at a shallow angle. This is artwork, not a navigation chart, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Pavement markings, lighting and signage are examples of what is left out.

Does this work as a gift?

It does, particularly for a pilot, controller or student who has flown circuits at this field, or for anyone with a connection to the western Chicago suburbs. Physical formats are made to order, and the Digital Download is a file if you want to handle framing yourself.
