Supplied unframed, with no added white margin, ready for your own frame.

Dimensions

Fine Art Print: 8 x 10, 16 x 20, and 24 x 30 inches.

Made like something you keep.

The field itself

This is Waterville's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Waterville Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Waterville Regional reads as an X on the wall. The print shows two asphalt runways crossing near the middle of the field: 05/23, the long one at 5,500 by 100 feet, running from the lower left up to the upper right, and 14/32 at 2,301 by 60 feet, cutting across it on the shallower diagonal. Neither strip is vertical, so the whole figure sits on a tilt inside the frame, which is what gives this one its movement.

Around the pavement, a lighter taxiway traces the west side of 05/23 and loops back to the runway ends, with the apron and a small cluster of buildings set off to the left. Runway designators are set into the ends of each strip, the way they appear on an airport diagram. The layout is plotted from published airport information for cycle 2610, with a magnetic variation of 18W behind those 05, 23, 14 and 32 numbers. Field elevation of 333 feet, the WVL block, the city line and the coordinates sit quietly in the lower corner.

As artwork, the appeal is the imbalance. One long stroke, one short stroke, a crossing point well above center, and a lot of open ground left over. It holds up at small sizes because the shapes stay legible, and it holds up large because the negative space does real work. Hang it on its own or beside other Maine fields such as Augusta or Bangor, where the contrast between layouts is the point.

Waterville (WVL) print, common questions

How many runways does Waterville Regional have?

Two, and both are drawn on the print. Runway 05/23 measures 5,500 by 100 feet and runway 14/32 measures 2,301 by 60 feet. Both are asphalt, and they cross rather than run parallel, which is what produces the X shape in the artwork.

What is the longest runway at WVL?

Runway 05/23, at 5,500 feet long and 100 feet wide. It is the dominant diagonal in the print, running corner to corner while the shorter 14/32 crosses it.

Where is WVL and how high is the field?

Waterville Regional is in Waterville, Maine, at 44.5333 N, 69.6755 W, with a field elevation of 333 feet. WVL is the three letter identifier for the airport; the four letter version is KWVL. The identifier, city line, coordinates and elevation are all printed in the lower corner.

How accurate is the artwork to the published layout?

The runway shapes, lengths, widths and crossing angle are plotted from published runway data for cycle 2610. It is a designed piece rather than a navigation document, so fine details may be simplified or omitted. Lighting, markings and minor pavement edges are the usual omissions.

What formats does this come in?

Four: Fine Art Print, Framed Fine Art Print, Glossy Metal Print and Digital Download. Physical pieces are made to order in the colorway you choose, and the digital option is a file you download.

Is this a good gift for a pilot who flies out of Waterville?

Yes, and it works because it is specific. Anyone who has flown the 5,500 foot main runway or the short crossing strip will recognize the field before reading the WVL block. Hangar, office and home walls all take it, and the framed option makes it ready to hang.
