St. George Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

One runway, corner to corner: SGU is runway 1/19, 9,300 feet long and 150 feet wide, asphalt, and no second strip crosses it. On paper that single stroke carries the whole composition, a long dark diagonal running from the lower left up to the upper right, with the parallel taxiway shadowing it and the terminal apron, hangar rows and a scatter of ramp buildings gathered along one side. The elevation, 2,884 feet, sits in the corner block with the coordinates under the SGU title.

The field is young. It opened in 2011 as a replacement for the land-locked St. George Municipal Airport, which sat atop a mesa in the city with no good room for expansion. The new site, about 6 miles southeast of downtown, had been an abandoned airfield that most recently saw drag racing and radio controlled aircraft rather than traffic. The St. George Regional name came in 2015. A print of a field this new is a print of a decision: one long runway, laid out once, with room left around it.

That emptiness is the point on a wall. The paper stays mostly quiet, so the eye follows the runway line end to end and then drifts into the apron detail. In 2019, with the runway closed for reconstruction, the nearest commercial service airports were Cedar City Regional to the northeast and Harry Reid International near Las Vegas to the southwest, which is a fair sketch of how much desert this one strip serves.
