The field itself

This is Millington's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Millington/Memphis Airport Runway Diagram Print

Millington/Memphis has one runway, and the print gives it the whole sheet. Runway 04/22 runs 8,001 feet by 150 feet, long and wide enough to say plainly that this field was not built for light airplanes. The chart corner carries one number worth a second look: the magnetic variation here is 0E, so a compass heading and a geographic one are effectively the same thing, which is rare enough that pilots notice it. Field elevation is 322 feet. Plotted to scale from published field information, the layout reads as a single decisive line with open ground on both sides.

That runway is Navy work. The field is in Millington, Tennessee, in Shelby County about 16 miles north of Memphis, and it was Naval Air Station Memphis for most of the twentieth century. Military flying came to the property in World War I, when the Army leased land from the Memphis Chamber of Commerce and set up Park Field for flight training. The Navy took it over after the United States entered the Second World War, bought another 1,279 acres, and ran primary training there with an eventual 350 N2S Stearmans and sixteen outlying fields. The base realignment round of 1993 split the place in two: the naval side became Naval Support Activity Memphis in 1995, renamed Naval Support Activity Mid-South in 1998, while the airfield and flight line passed to the city of Millington. Military aircraft visiting the base next door use the airport. The drawing keeps to that plain, purposeful geometry, composed from published airport information and available field depictions and set on a ground tone you choose, so it reads clean from across a room and holds up close.

Millington (NQA) print, common questions

How many runways does Millington/Memphis have?

One. Runway 04/22 measures 8,001 feet long by 150 feet wide, and it carries the whole composition in the print.

How long is the runway at NQA?

8,001 feet, at 150 feet wide, with an asphalt and concrete surface.

What is the field elevation at NQA, and what is unusual about its magnetic variation?

The field sits at 322 feet above sea level. Its magnetic variation is 0E, meaning magnetic north and true north line up here. Both numbers are printed small in the corner of the diagram.

Where is NQA, and what was it before?

It is in Millington, Tennessee, in Shelby County, about 16 miles north of Memphis. It was Naval Air Station Memphis until the airfield was turned over to the city of Millington following the 1993 base realignment round.
