Middle Georgia Regional Airport Runway Diagram Print

Middle Georgia Regional (MCN) reads as one bold X. Two asphalt runways cross above the middle of the sheet: 5/23, 6,500 by 150 feet, climbing from the lower left toward the upper right, and 14/32, 5,000 by 150 feet, falling from the upper left to the lower right. Each end carries its number in white on the dark pavement, 5, 14, 23 and 32 as published. The corner block holds the identifier, Macon, Georgia, the coordinates and the field elevation of 354 feet.

The rest of the sheet is held in a quieter gray: taxiway loops wrapping both ends of 5/23, the wide apron and terminal frontage across the top, hangar and shop blocks stepping down the right side, and a detached apron near the bottom right. Those gray shapes give the X something to sit in, so the composition never floats. Published airport information guides the relative runway geometry, which is why the crossing lands high and slightly left instead of dead center, and that off balance point is what makes the print interesting at a distance.

The field began as Cochran Field, where the first class of British Royal Air Force cadets arrived in 1941 for training under the Arnold Scheme, and two Army built hangars from that era still exist. Smart Field served as Macon's municipal airport until 1947, and after a tornado swept it the airlines moved their operations to Cochran. The passenger terminal went up in 1959 and was extensively renovated in 2003. In 2019, Embraer announced a repair and maintenance facility here for its ERJ and E-Jet aircraft. Hung on its own, the crossed strips carry a room. Hung beside Atlanta or Augusta, they start a wall of Georgia fields.
