Rickenbacker International Airport Runway Diagram Print

Rickenbacker International is a two runway field, and both runways lie parallel on a southwest to northeast diagonal, which is what gives this print its long corner to corner line. 05R/23L is the longer of the pair at 12,103 feet by 200 feet, in asphalt and concrete. 05L/23R runs 11,902 feet by 150 feet, in asphalt. The two are close enough in length that the pair reads as one wide dark band split down the middle, with the approach ends stepped slightly apart where 5R and 5L begin at the bottom of the sheet.

On a wall that diagonal does most of the work. The runway pair runs dark and unbroken toward the upper right corner, while everything else (the taxiway spine, the aprons, the terminal and hangar blocks) gathers along the northwest side as a lighter grey mass. The lower right of the sheet stays open, so the composition leans rather than centers. Field elevation of 744 feet sits with the coordinates in the caption block, small type instead of decoration.

The field opened in 1942 as Lockbourne Army Airfield and was redesignated Rickenbacker in 1974 for Eddie Rickenbacker, the Columbus native and leading American fighter pilot of World War I. Since 2012 it has also carried a growing number of passenger flights, primarily by Allegiant, alongside the cargo work that is its main business.
