The field itself

This is International Falls's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Falls International Airport Runway Diagram Print

Falls International Airport works two asphalt runways of very unequal size, and the print draws both to scale from published field information. Runway 13/31 does the work at 7,400 feet by 150 feet, while 04/22 measures 2,999 feet by 75 feet, narrow enough that it reads as a thin line set against the broad one. Field elevation is 1,184 feet, and the magnetic variation of 3E sits small in the corner the way a chart notes it.

The field is in International Falls, in Koochiching County, right on the Minnesota line with Canada, and the international in its name is literal: it is a designated port of entry with customs on site. Before the war, pilots flying into this country made do with a grass strip south of Highway 11. The city formally established the airport at that site afterward, two paved runways went in during 1946, and a terminal followed in 1948. In the fall of 2011 the city, the county and the airport commission redesignated the field as Einarson Field, after the family that cleared that first grass strip and has run the operation ever since.

The long runway grew in stages, and the diagram grew with it. The main strip started at 3,000 feet and was extended in 1953, reached 5,000 feet in 1962 when Koochiching County came in as a partner, took another 1,500 feet in 1969, and arrived at its present 7,400 feet with a pavement extension in 2006. What flies off it is mostly light traffic: as of 2015 general aviation made up 88 percent of operations over the twelve months ending that December, and the one scheduled route runs south to Minneapolis, which carried about 14,000 passengers in 2024. The drawing holds that plain northern layout at its published proportions, composed from published airport information and available field depictions and set on a ground tone you choose, so it reads as a clear graphic mark from across a room.
