The field itself

This is Washington's own layout, the way its runways run and the taxiways thread between them, composed into a print you will want to look at every day. Not a stock template with a new name on it.

Museum-quality cotton paper

Heavyweight 330 gsm, 100% cotton Hot Press paper, acid-free and archival-grade. Its high color gamut and black density give the runways real depth, and pigment inks keep the fine detail crisp on a smooth matte surface.

Solid wood framing or glossy metal

Frame it in 1.25 inch solid wood, black, white or natural oak, with the white beveled mat, optical-grade clear acrylic and hanging wire included. Or choose glossy metal: dye sublimation into aluminum, floated about 3/4 inch off the wall on a hidden mount.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Runway Diagram Print

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport fits three runways onto a tight parcel beside the Potomac River, and this print plots each one to scale from the field's actual layout. The main runway, 01/19, runs 7,169 feet close to north and south; the shorter 15/33 (5,204 feet) and 04/22 (5,000 feet) cut across it on the diagonal, so all three meet near the center of the field. Every runway here measures 150 feet wide, and published field information guides their relative proportions in the drawing.

Hemmed in by the river on one side and the terminal complex on the other, the runways at Reagan National had to overlap rather than fan out across open ground. The composition leans into that. The dark diagonals of 15/33 and 04/22 slice through the long vertical of 01/19, and the pale taxiways and terminal apron trace the western edge where the concourses line up along the water. It is a busy, angular shape, closer to a hand-thrown asterisk than the clean parallels of a wide inland hub, and it makes for a print that rewards a second look.

The airport opened in 1941 as Washington National and was renamed in 1998 to honor Ronald Reagan, the fortieth president. Much of the eastern side of the field was built on landfill dredged from the Potomac near Gravelly Point, which is why the runways press so close to the shoreline in the drawing.

The numbers along each runway are magnetic headings, and Reagan National's were redrawn in 1999 as Earth's magnetic field slowly drifted: the old 18/36 became 01/19 and 03/21 became 04/22. This print keeps those current designators, the field's coordinates, and its 14-foot elevation set quietly in the margin. It is the closest of the region's fields to Washington, with Dulles out to the west and Baltimore to the north, and it makes a fitting piece for anyone who has flown into that sliver of runway on the Potomac or watched the monuments slide past on climb-out.

Washington (DCA) print, common questions

How many runways does Reagan National have?

Three: the main 01/19, plus 15/33 and 04/22. They cross near the center of the field, and the print composes their relative angles from published field information.

What is the longest runway at DCA?

Runway 01/19 is the longest at 7,169 feet and 150 feet wide.

How high is Reagan National above sea level?

About 14 feet. The field sits right on the Potomac River, and that elevation is printed in the margin of the diagram.

Where is DCA located?

In Arlington County, Virginia, roughly five miles from downtown Washington. It is the closest airport to the nation's capital.

How does the DCA print relate to the airport's layout?

Published airport information and available field depictions guide the DCA composition, including the runway designators and relative geometry. It is original wall art, so fine details may be simplified or omitted.

What sizes are available?

The print comes in several sizes and finishes, made to order, with the ground tone left to you so it can suit the wall it is going on.
