TSTC Waco Airport Runway Diagram Print

TSTC Waco Airport works two parallel runways, and the print is essentially a study of the pair. Runway 17L/35R is 8,600 by 150 feet, and 17R/35L is 6,291 by 75 feet, so the shorter strip reads as a thin line beside a heavy one. On the sheet they sit side by side on a slight tilt off vertical, close enough to feel related and far enough apart to leave an open lane between them. The narrow runway starts well down the field, roughly a third of the way along its neighbour, and runs a little past it at the south end, so the two bars are offset rather than matched. Field elevation is 470 feet above sea level and magnetic variation is 4E.

The field opened on May 5, 1942 as Waco Army Air Field and became headquarters of the Army Air Force Central Instructors' School during World War II. It was deactivated in 1945, reactivated in 1948 for pilot training under Air Training Command, and renamed for Colonel James T. Connally, a pilot killed in Japan in 1945. From 1957 it supported the headquarters of Twelfth Air Force and concentrated on navigator training. James Connally Air Force Base closed in 1968, navigator training moved to Mather Air Force Base in California, Twelfth Air Force went to Bergstrom Air Force Base at Austin, and the property passed to the State of Texas. The name on the print comes from Texas State Technical College, which owns the field and runs its aviation programs there. Raytheon sold its aircraft integration plant here to L-3 Communications in 2002. During George W. Bush's presidency, Air Force One flew in and out of this field on trips to his Prairie Chapel Ranch, using a Boeing VC-137 until its 2001 retirement, or a C-32, because the larger presidential jet needs more runway than the field offers.

Runway designators, lengths and widths follow the published figures, while taxiways and apron edges are reduced to flat geometry over the ground tone you choose.
