Brunswick Golden Isles Airport Runway Diagram Print

The field was a Navy station before it was an airport. In August 1942 the U.S. Navy began building Naval Air Station Glynco on 2,400 acres in the northern part of the county, the name an abbreviation of Glynn County, and based lighter than air airships, blimps, there. Airline service left its own trace: in 1973 a Delta timetable dated March 1 showed a DC-9-30 working south from Chicago O'Hare through Cincinnati and Atlanta, then Savannah, Brunswick, Jacksonville and Orlando. When the Navy training mission wound down, a group of 19 community leaders formed the Glynco Steering Committee to find new users, and in 1975 the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers took the former base site while the community kept the airfield and its runway, designated the official county municipal airport that same year.

The Glynco Jetport name lasted until 2003, when it was changed to Brunswick Golden Isles Airport to point at the destination rather than the old base, and a new passenger terminal opened in 2005. In 2023 Delta Connection flights to Atlanta were upgraded to larger CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 regional jets.
